Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest (south of Rawlins, WY)
and Highway 28 near South Pass City, WYNo 2008 hiker report available but
the July 2008 BLM report is here (scroll down)
This page was updated 19 June 2007
based on a water status report by a 2007 hiker (Terry)
2006 status has been left in place.
THE ORIGINAL WATER SOURCE INFORMATION PAGE WAS PROVIDED BY:
BLM South Central Wyoming
CONTINENTAL DIVIDE NATIONAL SCENIC TRAIL
NON-POTABLE SURFACE WATER SOURCESThe following non-potable surface water sources are described in a south to north alignment. With the exception of fenced reservoirs and springs all water is available to livestock and wild horses. It is highly recommended that all water be treated prior to use. This may require pre-treatment such as straining through a coffee filter, bandana, or other device. The updated information, as of Aug 2006, came from reports from thru-hikers and BLM employees. When/if available the updated information for 2007 will be provided by date of new information for each water source in RED ITALICS.
GIS/GPS Information:
The location data of the non-potable water sources is provided in three formats, a legal description (Township=T, Range=R, Section=Sec.), Latitude/Longitude coordinates, and Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates (Northing/Easting). The Latitude/Longitude coordinates are provided in decimal degrees according to the North American Datum 1983 (NAD83) coordinate system. The Universal Transverse Mercator coordinates are provided in meters according to the North American Datum 1983 (NAD83) coordinate system, and occur in either UTM Zone 12 or UTM Zone 13. The UTM Zone is listed bove the corresponding UTM Northing and Easting coordinates. Most coordinate locations were derived from GPS points taken at the water source, however some were derived from the on-screen-digitization of points. Both are accurate for the purpose of finding water sources. Accuracy may be off by several meters.
