In 2009, we spent a few days at Kejimkujik National Park in Nova Scotia. There are a number of petroglyph sites here, but this was the only one open to the public. And even then, it was open only via Ranger-guided tour. We did get some photos, but not nearly as many as we'd like. The petroglyphs here are mostly recent - meaning post-Colonial.
The site was a rock ledge on the edge of the lake, subject to the ravages of wind, water, snow and vandalism. Which, of course, is why the site is restricted. And why the other sites in the Park have been closed.
Keji is one of the historic hunting grounds and sacred areas for the Mi'kmaq people. It's still an essentially Mi'kmaq area.
